Central Library’s 50th Anniversary

The Sonoma County Library’s Central Santa Rosa Library — once known as the Santa Rosa Free Public Library — celebrates its 50th anniversary. The current modernist library replaced an crumbling Carnegie library in 1967 under the leadership of director David Sabsay. The Library hosted a celebration on February 26, following two excellent talks on the history of the Santa Rosa Library: Katherine Rinehart’s Evolution of the Central Library (Feb. 15) and Darren Bradley’s Organic Modernist Architecture: The Central Santa Rosa Library (Feb. 22). Katherine also created a great photo collection highlighting the Central Library
