Our Sonoma County Local Authors project continues to grow. With the discovery of a list of authors compiled back in 1994, Collections Development Librarian David Dodd was able to fill in a few blanks in the Sonoma County literary landscape and bring Community up to 1020 entries. Notable additions from the list and from books new to the Library include:
- Johnny Otis (1921-2012), American singer, musician, composer, arranger, bandleader, talent scout, disc jockey, record producer, television show host, artist, author, journalist, minister, and impresario (and briefly, owner of a deli-style grocery store/cabaret in Sebastopol where he played sold-out shows). Otis is known as the original “King of Rock & Roll” and he is commonly referred to as the “Godfather of Rhythm and Blues.
- Laura Chenel, California’s first producer of fromage de chèvre—the soft and creamy king of goat cheese
- Terrence McKenna (1946-2000), known as the “Timothy Leary of the 90s” — ethnobotanist, mystic, psychonaut, lecturer, author, and an advocate for the responsible use of naturally occurring psychedelic plants
- Bart King, Disney-Hyperion and best-selling Amazon kids author, who “writes for kids and immature adults”
