This gallery of photos from the Wright Hill/Poff Ranch north of Bodega Bay provides a glimpse into the lives of ranchers Jack and Irene Poff. Jack Poff was born in Sonoma County to Charles and May (Von Arx)) Poff. His grandfather was Anthony Poff, a pioneer land owner of 440 acres on King Ridge Road in the 1860’s. Poff was a World War II veteran, who served from 1942 to 1945; in 1953 he bought Wright Hill Ranch with his brother Harold and father Charles. This sheep ranch was located above Shell Beach on the Sonoma County coast. In 1976 he married Irene Poff; and in 1977 he became owner of both Poff ranches; in the late 1990’s he purchased a home in Petaluma, and died there in 2006. In 2007 the 1,238 acre Poff Ranch, the largest privately owned tract of land in Sonoma County, was acquired by the Sonoma County Open Space District for 5.6 million.
